Which is the looniest democratic country?

Well, I would have said England. (An Englishman I know pointed out the other day that the English now find the word "Englishman" somewhat ludicrous, like something out of a Noel Coward play. There can't be many other nations whose members are embarrassed to use the word denoting their nationality. But now I have come across an essay which argues that actually Israel is at the head of the pack, lunacy-wise.
